TEAM Batting Average increases 34 pts in 1 season with Strobe Training Glasses
"The batting average for the University of Cincinnati baseball team went from 0.251 to 0.285 before and after vision training (Batting average is hits/at bats, excluding walks, fielders choice and sacrifice]. This is a 0.034 improvement in the team’s batting average. The rest of the Big East fell 0.034 [Table 1]. This difference is 0.068 with 95% confidence interval [0.021, 0.114], with Cincinnati significantly improving compared to the rest of the conference [p,0.01]."
"Strobe training assists the brain in visualizing where the ball is going and the ball’s rate. The brain is able to process the information the eye sends to it faster, and in that process when the Strobes training is discontinued, the ball’s motion appears slower. This is an adaptation response of the brain and the duration with which the adaption remains is yet to be determined." https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0029109
"The team batting average went from being ranked 12th in the Big East in 2010 to tied for 4th in 2011. During the same time frame the opponent’s batting average slightly decreased from 0.288 in 2010 to 0.280 in 2011. The team rankings in the Big East improved from 7th in 2010 to tied for 4th in 2011 where they had a 0.500 season in 2010 to a 0.526 season in 2011." https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0029109
The greatest strobe training product was introduced by NIKE with the NIKE Vapor Strobe training glasses by Dr. Alan Reichow. These glasses allowed the athlete to take their vision training from the trainers room to the field. For example, an athlete could wear them while they were catching (football/baseball), hitting (baseball/softball/tennis), kicking and dribbling (soccer/basketball), and shooting (basketball/firearms). The athletes were able to increase the rate of the occlusion to make movements more difficult. This would be like resistance training (weightlifting) for the eyes and brain. Once NIKE got out of the market of all of their 'gadgets' to focus on shoes and apparel there was an athlete demand that needed to be filled for strobe training.
Bring back Dr. Alan Reichow. He reintroduced the product with major upgrades in the VIMA REV Sport and VIMA REV Tactical. The most important upgrade was to make the lenses allow light to enter when the lenses were in occlusion. (This was important to better mimic the environment where an athlete performs since athletes do not perform in any environment when it is completely black.) Secondly, was to create the glasses with ballistic plastic lenses, which create a much more durable and safe lenses against shattering. Third, there is an amazing Smartphone app (Apple or Google) that allows the user to control via Bluetooth.
There are many different training level settings. The lowest level is '07'. At this level the athlete will see 100ms of clear lenses, then 70ms of occlusion (and continue to repeat with both lenses at once). The levels of occlusion continue to progress '10' (100ms), '15' (150ms), '21' (210ms), '28' (280ms), '36' (360ms), '45' (450ms), '55' (550ms), '66' (660ms), '78' (780ms), '91' (910ms). At the higher levels the athlete is more or less 'blind'. These levels are best uses for balance training.
There are 3 types of training protocols, (1) the default is both lenses blinking at same time, (2) left and right lenses alternating their occlusion, (3) the option for one lens to constantly be occluded while the other lens blinks. The latter 2 types focus more on training to strengthen the less dominate eye.
WHY SHOULD I TRAIN WITH STROBE GLASSES?The BRAIN IS LAZY and only uses at much energy/effort as IT WANTS TO. With our eyes open all the time the brain, through the eyes, keeps getting 'fed' and is used to that constant visual 'food'. When we use Strobe Training we essentially 'starve' the brain from its usual diet and that forces the brain, through the eyes, to work harder to get that visual 'food'. It seeks to find out information (object, location, speed, spin, pattern recognition, etc.) sooner and process faster to allow an athlete to make a successful athletic movement with less info. As the brain, through the eyes, learns to acquire information and process sooner we are now training in a more game like environment. We can literally practice hitting a baseball in a situation where we raise our senses to a critical performance situation! Good luck training!
